Program Description:
Benway School is a therapeutic-based program that is committed to the belief that emotional growth and academic success go hand-in-hand. We are committed to maintaining a creative, nurturing, and family-like environment to help teach our students in the way that works best with their needs and learning styles. Benway utilizes visual, auditory, and kinesthetic teaching styles to ensure that every child has a chance to grow, learn, and be successful.
Providing our students with everything they need to lead successful lives is our foremost goal. Our school features a plethora of technology that our students utilize including iPads, Smartboards, a computer lab, green screen, and more! One component of Benway’s transition program allows students to come to our school for a half day, and then finish their academic day at a trade school. We have partnerships with automotive, culinary, and hair design trade schools. The Adult Transitions program at Benway provides students, aged 18-21, the added opportunity of learning life skills and community based instruction.
Another area that sets us apart is our philosophy that the best way to develop a student is through a complete wellness approach. We believe the benefits from physical activity help children grow mentally, as well as, physically. For this reason we not only have a Physical Education program, but a weight room with a weight training elective, and two coed Varsity and JV sports. Benway’s sports programs compete in a full season schedule in both basketball and softball. The latter of which won the league title in 2014! The Benway Falcons compete to help our students develop motor skills, learn how to work as a cohesive unit, build self-esteem, and develop a strong work ethic. Benway is committed to the belief that success comes from developing the “whole body” and not just the mind.
