Program Description:
CTC Academy’s Oakland Campus is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities, offering comprehensive elementary, middle school, high school, and transition programs for students through age 21. The campus serves children and young adults with significant developmental, intellectual, physical, and multiple disabilities, including students with complex medical needs.
Our individualized educational approach integrates academic instruction, therapeutic services, assistive technology, communication development, and functional life skills within a supportive, student and family centered environment. Each student’s program is guided by an Individualized Education Program (IEP), with teachers, therapists, nursing professionals, and families collaborating to promote meaningful progress, independence, communication, and participation.
Educational Programming and Specialized Instruction is individualized to each student’s strengths, abilities, and learning needs, emphasizing functional academics, communication, social development, daily living skills, and increased independence. Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology are integrated throughout the school day to maximize access, engagement, and student participation. Educational programming is enriched through adapted physical education, therapeutic swimming in an onsite heated pool, yoga, art, music, and specialized activities. Grade specific programs include Let’s M.O.V.E. for elementary students, dance and leisure clubs for middle school students, and horticulture, theater, and clubs for high school students. These experiences promote creativity, movement, social interaction, vocational readiness, and the application of skills across settings.
Educational and therapeutic services are coordinated to address each student’s individual needs. Physical, occupational, and speech language therapies support mobility, positioning, communication, functional participation, and independence. Specialized nursing support accommodates students with complex health and medical needs. Onsite physiatry and equipment clinics provide additional opportunities for consultation and coordination of care.
Beginning in middle school, Community Based Instruction (CBI) provides opportunities to apply academic, social, therapeutic, and functional skills in real world environments. Peer connection programs with neighboring schools foster friendships, inclusion, and meaningful social experiences.
For students ages 18 through 21, the Student Transition and Education Program (STEP) focuses on preparing young adults for life beyond school. Individualized programming emphasizes functional academics, vocational exploration and training, community participation, self advocacy, social skills, daily living skills, and leisure development. Students gain practical experience through school based and community based activities designed to support a successful transition to adult life.
The Oakland Campus operates a full day, 10 month school program and offers a five week Extended School Year (ESY) program during the summer. ESY provides continuity of instruction and therapeutic services while incorporating engaging recreational activities to support skill maintenance and continued growth.
