Program Description:
A parent says “I chose The Gateway School because you were ‘for the child’, at whatever level he was! The staff is warm and thoughtful, and I knew my child would be in good hands.”

The student is ALWAYS the priority!

Gateway School opened over 40 years ago. We have continued to grow and evolve using the latest advancements in resources to meet the ever-changing needs of the special education population.

Gateway’s individualized supports and functional academic programs are developed from a multi-faceted approach to further every student’s ability to learn, communicate, demonstrate life skills, and adapt to social environments to the best of their abilities. We focus on maximum independence, social/emotional health, and building skills to improve each student’s future.

Our related services include nursing, speech, occupational and physical therapies, and counseling. We have a partnership with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care, a school-based mental health support service for eligible students. Our Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides assessment and guidance to classroom staff to decrease behavior concerns, and works cooperatively with our certified Crisis Prevention & Intervention team.

We have a state-of-the-art STEM Lab, creative art and music programs, and adapted physical education. We participate in Special Olympic and wide-variety of Community-Based Instruction trips. We have a strong Transition Work-Based Learning Program to guide the 18-21 year-old population into adult services.

At Gateway School, we understand the complexities and challenges of finding the best fit for a student. Our goal is to satisfy the student’s needs and IEP goals, and to support each family/care-takers desire to be part of our family, to ensure growth and achievements for your student.
