Established in 1967,The Deron School of New Jersey serves the academic, emotional, and social needs of children with learning disabilities. Deron I and II accommodate more than 260 students, ages 5-21, classified Eligible for Special Education and/or Related Services (ESERS) from counties throughout New Jersey.
Quality programs are provided to students in various eligibility categories. The Deron School is fully handicap accessible. The mission of the Deron School is to provide a comprehensive school experience with a warm, supportive, structured learning environment that empowers students to reach their highest level of independence and achievement. Deron School prepares students with disabilities to lead successful, productive lives, allowing them to become contributing members of their communities. Our students discover talents, cultivate strengths, conquer challenges, and fulfill dreams.
Students are carefully evaluated to ensure that their individualized programs meet their specific needs and develop their talents. Educational programs focus on student achievement in academics, behavior, self-help skills, fine and gross motor coordination, and transition planning. Review of each student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) is an ongoing process involving students, parents/guardians, teachers, and the Child Study Team.
Academics are a priority at the Deron School. Curriculum is based on New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and takes into account students’ abilities and educational levels. Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace in Reading and Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Health.
Deron School’s small classes with high staff-to student ratios ensure individual attention and active participation in learning. Extended School Year(summer school) program is also offered.
